Summertime Swimming

With summer temperatures arriving, people all over Wisconsin and Minnesota are able to enjoy their lakes, rivers, and pools for water activities. With all of the fun that comes from summertime water activities, safety still remains an important concern. According to the CDC, every day about ten people die in unintentional drowning accidents. There are simple tips to help keep you and your family safe this summer on the water:

  • Make sure children are supervised at all times and supervisors are paying attention to children in the water
  • Make sure people in the water are capable swimmers, particularly children
  • Have someone capable in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Use proper life jackets for floatation, not noodles, inner tubes, or water wings
  • Don’t consume alcohol while swimming, boating, or water skiing
  • Install proper fencing around pools
  • Keep the pool deck clear of toys and clutter
