Drive Safely In Winter Conditions

|

Slippery, cold winter driving conditions arrive in the season of the year when motorists are especially rushed to keep up with holiday shopping and travel.  A reminder to use extra caution is in order to help avoid a traumatic accident that could ruin the holidays.

AAA recommends a number of safe-driving tips for winter conditions, including:

1.  Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
2.  Keep tires properly inflated.
3.  Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas-line freeze-up.
4.  Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface.
5.  Always use a seat belt.
6.  Consult weather reports when planning long-distance drives.
7.  On icy roads, accelerate and decelerate slowly.
8.  Drive slowly.
9.  Allow extra following distance.  The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds.

AAA’s full list of tips is available online: https://exchange.aaa.com/safety/driving-advice/winter-driving-tips/

Extra caution in the face of winter conditions could avoid accidents and save lives.
